Nigeria Table Tennis star, Aruna Quadri, has started this year in a fine mood after going up two places to be ranked 18th in the January 2020 Table Tennis ranking released by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). The Nigerian ended 2019 placed 20th on the global log but the latest ranking has seen Quadri remain the undisputed best in Africa, with 18th been the best in his career so far.

As long as I am happy I am starting this year with this ranking; this also means I need to continue to work harder because remaining on top is more work. So having achieved [the] quarterfinal feat in Rio, I think [a] medal is possible in Tokyo. But I am hoping to qualify soon as the qualifiers is more competitive this year.

Quadri also maintained the 18th position in the Olympic ranking which was released alongside the ITTF ranking on January 2, 2020. An excited Quadri noted that the improved ranking means more work. Nigerian table tennis fans are hopeful that the continent’s number 1 will qualify for 2020 Olympics and win a medal for Nigeria.
