Victor Moses helped Liverpool triumph over their title rivals, Manchester City in a pulsating game on Sunday. The Nigerian International was a second-half substitute for match winner, Philippe Coutinho. With four games left to play, Moses and his team mates have to add to their burgeoning successive win rate to ensure the title will be heading to Anfield come May.
SWANSEA 0-1 CHELSEA
John Mikel Obi was named amongst the substitutes for the trip to south Wales. He was thrown into the game for Senegalese striker, Demba Ba who had scored what proved to be the winner. The Nigerian and Chelsea are on the heels of league leaders, Liverpool and will travel to the Anfield later this month for what could be the title decider.
FULHAM 1-0 NORWICH
Joseph Yobo was missing in the Norwich City side that took on Fulham over the weekend. The defender’s expertise and guile would have been useful to his side, who slumped to yet another defeat at Craven Cottage. The loss drags Norwich into the relegation battle, along with Fulham, West Brom, Sunderland and Cardiff City.
STOKE 1-0 NEWCASTLE
Peter Osaze Odewingie and Shola Ameobi both started out for their respective teams. However, Osaze was replaced in the 87th minute by John Walters. Both strikers were unable to get on the score sheet. Ameobi’s poor scoring form continues as we count down to the World Cup.
WEST BROM 3-3 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
Victor Anichebe did not play a part in this thrilling encounter at the Hawthorns, however, he was on the bench for the game. West Brom raced into a three goal lead in the first half through Matej Vydra, Chris Brunt and Benin striker, Stephane Sessegnon. Sheyi Emmanuel Adebayor missed a penalty in the first half before a rejuvenated Tottenham side came back fighting in the second half. Christian Eriksen was the hero for Tottenham, scoring a last gasp equalizer to dent West Brom’s hopes of survival.
In other news, Hull City booked a place in the final of the FA Cup on Sunday with an emphatic 5-3 win over League One side, Sheffield United at Wembley. Hull City’s Nigerian striker cum winger, Sonie Aluko will be hoping to join the illustrious league of Nigerians to have won the cup when Hull City face Arsenal, the winners of the second semi-final, at Wembley next May. Kanu Nwankwo and Mikel Obi have enjoyed more success in the FA Cup than other Nigerians, both players have two and three FA Cup medals respectively in their possession. Daniel Amokachi also has one FA Cup medal, which he won in 1995 with Everton.
