The Nigerian scholar who graduated with distinctions in Biology Major and Minor in English alongside other academic achievements, has also earned Syracuse University’s prestigious 1870 scholarship for another four years of medical studies. Reacting to Alaba’s academic success, Professor Karin Ruhlandt, Syracuse University’s Dean of the School of Arts and Science, listed some of her accomplishments at the institution which includes the Deans List Honours, Distinction in Biology, and the 1870 scholarship granted by the school’s Office of Admission. Aside from being the Students’ Speaker (valedictorian) for 2021, the Nigerian was also selected as a Senior Class Marshall of Syracuse University and gained recognition as a Distinguished Syracuse University Scholar after graduating with a CGPA of 3.97 in a 4.0 system.
‘Alaba’s study in Biology also includes independent research related to the development of the brain’s neocotext which will eventually help scientists understand certain new developmental disorders. In addition to her academics, Alaba has volunteered at hospitals in Syracuse. She was also a student tutor and Event Coordinator for the Food Recovery Network and international student mentor at the Connection Programme in the Centre of International Services and serves as Vice-President of the Aikido Sports Club in Syracuse.’ Professor Karin Ruhlandt

President Joe Biden who is also a graduate of Syracuse University (1968 Law graduate) urged the 2021 graduating class in a post on the University’s website to remain resilient and purposeful in their bid to positively influence the trajectory of their world. An excited Alaba, while receiving her award, revealed that the journey was tough but her resolve to make the best out of it saw her reach the top. She also stated that flexibility and resilience were instrumental to her success.
‘The journey was tough but I made the promise to myself to do my best and make my time at Syracuse University special for me.
