Great news! Nigerian actress, Uzo Aduba received the
Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series award at the 2015 Primetime Emmy Awards, which aired in the United States this Sunday.
The actress was recognised for her stellar performance in the television series,
Orange is the New Black created by Jenji Konhan. Uzo stars as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren on the show.
In her emotional speech, Uzo had the following to say:
“I really just want to say thank you a thousand times. If I could say thank you a thousand times, it would not be enough. I really just want to say thank you for my family, who have stood beside me my entire life. I am humbled to call myself your sister. I love you so much”.
This is the second Emmy for Uzo who received her first in 2014 in the
Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series category.
According to her official Wikipedia page, Uzo was named Uzoamaka Nwanneka Aduba at birth and is the daughter of Nigerian parents of Igbo origin. She grew up in Massachusetts, and has been officially acting since 2013 with her first stage performance in
Translations of Xhosa at the Olney Theatre Center for the Arts earning her a Helen Hayes Award nomination.
