The Nigerian is a recipient of numerous awards such as the Howard University Medical Alumni Association Alumni Award, Michael Oliver Dumas Prize, Dr M. Wharton Young Prize, Merck Manual Awards, and more.
A 22-year-old Nigerian lady identified as BoubiniMiyensinte Jones-Wonni has displayed the ingenuity of Nigeria at the global level after emerging as the best graduating student of the prestigious Howard University Medical School Class of 2022. Jones-Wonniwho is the youngest in her class also emerged as one of the two students in her class to be admitted for residency training in Internal Medicine at the prestigious Havard University Medical School.
Born on October 23, 1999, in Ido-ani, Ondo State, to the family of Dr and Mrs Jones-Wonni who hail from Arogbo Ese- Odo Local Government Area in the state, the academic guru showed glimpses of excellence at an early age during her primary education in Banky’s Private school Apo, Abuja. Her outstanding performance saw her sit for the common entrance examination in Primary Three, an exam she passed with flying colours. She would proceed to the Word of Faith Group of Schools in Area 1, Abuja for her secondary education, and remained consistent with hard work and diligence as the results came out brighter.
Jones-Wonni’s brilliance would see her named Library Prefect alongside a full tuition waiver in her final year in a secondary school as she went on to emerge as the best graduating student/valedictorian of the class of 2014 at just the age of 14. She would perform excellently in a test conducted and became a beneficiary of the Special Education Scholarship programme for Niger Delta Students, an initiative which formed part of the Presidential Amnesty Programme and travelled to the United States on scholarship to study Medicine and Surgery.
On getting to the US, she was required to complete the first degree in a relevant discipline before proceeding to medical school. In a bid to obtain a degree in biological sciences, Jones-Wonni was admitted into Miles College Alabama, USA. In a record time of three years, she completed the four-year program as the best graduating student from the Department of Natural Science and Mathematics with a grade point average of 4.0/4.0 in 2018 and emerged as co-Valedictorian at just the age of 18.
The Nigerian scored in the 91st percentile of the Medical College Admissions Test ( MCAT), a required test for admission into medical school. Her result meant she was in the top 9% of students who wrote the examination in the United States as she received an invitation to study at the Howard University Medical School in Washington DC (2018) where she finished as the best graduating student in the class of 2022.
