Global tech giant Google has announced that it will be expanding its Launchpad Accelerator to selected countries in Africa and Asia. The program, which has until recently taken in startups from Asia and South Africa, will now also embrace tech-oriented ventures from Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa, as well as three countries in Central/Eastern Europe.
The Launchpad Accelerator is a program designed to fast-track the growth of startups from across the world by providing them with expert mentorship and cost-free support. Its organizers describe it as an initiative geared towards encouraging the work of startups which have the goal of positively impacting the tech space in their home countries.
This year, Google invites applications from innovative startups that leverage technology to solve local problems. Successful applicants will take part in a six-month program, including a two-week all-expense paid training at the Launchpad space in San Francisco. They will also be mentored by over 20 Google teams and mentors from Silicon Valley Venture Capitalists. They will also have access to Google engineers, resources, PR and equity free support.
Google is currently accepting applications to the Launchpad Accelerator and will be doing so until April 24, 2017. The program will begin on July 17 at the Launchpad Space in San Francisco.
