Nigerian Startup, Salubata Technologies, Wins $10,000 At The Kigali Startup Festival

Salubata reforms plastic wastes.

Nigerian start-up, Salubata Technologies, won a cash sum of $10,000 (about N4.2 million) at the Kigali Startup Festival 2022 of the Commonwealth Youth Forum (CYF) in Kigali, Rwanda. The Nigerian enterprise got the prize money after emerging winner of the Green Innovation Guru Award category during the event. The Youth Forum which took place ahead of the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) was themed Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming’.

Reacting to the win, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Salubata Technologies Yewande Adebowale noted that the brand seeks to curtail the proliferation of plastic wastes by transforming them into shoes that are customized.

The Nigerian youth delegation to the CHOGM 2022 was hosted by the Nigerian High Commissioner to Rwanda Aishatu Musa at the chancery in Kigali. Aishatu Musa congratulated the delegation for representing the country well and hailed Salubata’s innovation as one capable of addressing some of the environmental challenges confronting Commonwealth nations.

No less than 400 entries were received for the startup awards which had four categories (green innovation, inter-trade, agricultural innovation and digital geeks). One winner emerged from each of the categories.
