Nigerian Researchers Invent New Techniques to Boost Agricultural Production

The  West Africa Agricultural Productivity Programme, in partnership with three Nigerian research institutes, have developed new fish drying and packaging techniques to accelerate local food production in Nigeria, APA reports. The institutes include: The Nigerian Stored Product Research Institute (NSPRI), Ilorin, Nigerian Institute of Oceanography and Marine Research (NIMOR) and The National Institute of Fisheries and Fresh Water Research (NIFFWR), New Bussa in Niger State. According to Executive Director, NSPRI, Prof. Olufemi Peters, the invention was a mandate for the three institutes to help reduce the country’s food importation costs through boosted local production and preservation. This is bound to lead to increased income earnings for the country, particularly from the aquaculture industry. Methods are assuredly hygienic and cost effective, as the NSPRI ascertains.     Source: APA
