Renowned Nigerian Powerlifter and Paralympics gold medalist, Ndidi Nwosu, has passed on. The news of her demise was revealed by former President of the Nigeria Powerlifting Federation, Queen Uboh. Uboh who was notified by the husband of the deceased revealed that the world champion had been battling with ill health especially after two surgeries that meant things would not be the same again for the Paralympian.

Ndidi sustained an injury from the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia. She was a heavyweight powerlifter…She had been off and on in the hospital and that was why she couldn’t take part in this last World Cup…She was a very quiet powerlifter and that’s why many people really didn’t know her. Ndidi became a professional powerlifter in 2008 and won gold in the Rio Paralympic Games in 2016 and also at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. It was at the Commonwealth Games that she sustained an injury which affected her spine

Reacting to the death of the Nigerian athlete, Nigerian Minister of Youth and Sport Development, Sunday Dare, expressed sadness over her death, noting that her demise was a great loss to the sports family.

The death of Ndidi Nwosu, a powerlifter who represented her country, Nigeria excellently at different international competitions is painful. A great loss to the sports family. She had an excellent medal record. She will be remembered as a patriot who gave her best to her country
