Nigerian Man, Joseph Udumeze Chukwueke Elected Mayor of Woodlynne in America

The News Nigeria

Over the course of 2019, we have seen Nigerians abroad emerge as political leaders in countries such as the United Kingdom (Kemi Badenoch), United States (Adewale Adeyemo) and in high profile medical teams (Oluyinka Olutoye). The Nigerian diaspora population ranges from 5 to 15 million people.

Another distinguished Nigerian, Joseph Udumeze Chukwueke, has yet again proven to the world that Nigerians are out for remarkable feats both home and abroad, with his election as the Mayor of Woodlynne, New Jersey, in the United States of America.

Prior to the historic election which saw the Nigerian emerge victorious, Chukwueke held the position of Chairperson for Emergency Management in the Woodlynne Borough Council. He is now set to take over the reigns from Jeraldo Fuentes (also a Democrat), the incumbent mayor of the city, whose tenure ends on December 31, 2019. The Nigerian assumes office on January 1, 2020. Chukwueke, a key member of the City Council, will be in office as mayor for three years.

In his new role, Chukwueke, who is a native of Ovim in Isiukwuato Local Government Area of Abia State, South-Eastern Nigeria, will serve as the Head of the Woodlynne Borough Council which is the governing body of the city. On a daily, the Mayor’s office serves as a link between residents of Town Hall and Woodlynne, entertaining questions, resolving ongoing issues, and connecting residents of the town with other municipal departments that could meet their needs and serve them better. Also, the office of the Mayor serves as communication outlet for the Borough, devoted to feeding the community with news updates and information from the Town Hall.
