Nigerian Idol has Mercy!

Winner of Nigerian idols 2012 edition Mercy Chinwo fondly called Mecindo by her fans no doubt is still reeling from her victory last night. An avalanche of votes from her fans both in Nigeria and in other parts of the continent sealed her victory for good, beating her equally talented rival Joe Blue to clinch the winning prize of N7.5 million, a mouth watering recording contract and a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV Jeep). The results came after Mercy and Joe Blue rendered three songs perfected with on-point stage showmanship and mind blowing dance-sequence-choreography that blew the minds of both viewers and judges. It wasn’t a very easy journey though as it had taken them both five long months to get to this stage. The show kicked off when hosts Ill Ryhmz and Tiwa Savage called on all the 12 finalists to render the National Anthem, which was followed by a performance from Wizkid, W4 and Chuddy K. Though the show was aired on Sunday, Mercy had emerged winner on Saturday where it was recorded for airing at the Idols Studio in Lagos. The journey to this stage had been full of tough drills, star performances, grueling rehearsals and surprise evictions that both Mercy and Joe Blue wriggled through up until the final moment. Many fans and keen followers of the show questioned by this writer say they had been rooting for Mercy but then, had not known what to expect as Joe Blue was also a worthy adversary.
