Nigerian Footballers Abroad: Ajayi, Iheanacho, Ndidi and Others Shine

Nigerian forward Junior Ajayi was in action for Al Ahly as they defeated bottom team El Raja Marsa Matruh in the Egyptian first division on Monday night. The Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medal winner with Nigeria’s U-23 Eagles, who scored his first goal for Al Ahly last Thursday against Al Ittihad, has now scored two goals in three games for the Red and White in the new Egyptian season. After Ahmed Fathi and Momen Zakaria scored for Al Ahly in the 7th and 20th minutes of the game respectively, Ajayi put in a third goal seconds before the halftime whistle. Ahmed Ouka put in a goal for El Raja to bring the score to 3-1 before Saad Samir restored their three-goal lead to end the game 4-1. Al Ahly is now 7th place with 7 points in the 18-team Egyptian top league tables.

Super Eagles players Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho were in action for Leicester against English Premier League team West Bromich Albion on Monday night, which was Iheanacho’s second league start in six games for the team having scored no goals so far ending the game in a deadlock 1-1. Iheanacho’s fowl in the 63rd minute gave West Brom the chance they needed to put in a goal from Chadli and take the lead. Luckily for Liechester, Mahrez, equalized with 10 minutes remaining on the clock, ending the game 1-1. The turn out of this game has kept Leicester in the relegation zone in the 18th position with 6 points while West Brom is in 10th position with 10 points.

Nigeria forward Sylvester Igboun who was in action for FC UFA on Sunday gave Lokomotiv Moscow 1-0 victory in the Russian first division. Igboun who has now scored only three goals after 13 league appearances for his team this season, put in a goal in the 76th minute on Sunday to give UFA the win.

In the French Ligue 1, Super Eagles defender, Chidozie Awaziem helped Nantes hold a 1-1 draw against Bordeaux. In the Turkish top flight, Nigerian duo Kenneth Omeruo and Emem Eduok featured for Kasimpasa who lost 3-2 to away Sivasspor.
