Former Nigerian amateur boxer, King Davidson Emenogu defeated Russia’s Russia’s Andrejs Iodinovs in the fifth round to retain his World Boxing Organization (WBO) International light middleweight title in Southampton on Sunday.
Emenogu, who was initially pencilled down for a fight against Ghanaian-born Philip Kotey, knocked out the Russian opposition in the fifth round to retain his WBO title.
He was billed to fight the Ghanaian before boxing promoters and organisers chose the Russian instead, just 48 hours before the fight.
Emenolu has publicly said he plans to stage his next fight in Nigeria.
“I have always been doing my fights outside the country since I turned professional.”
“I had represented Nigeria at Amateur level and as we all know, there is no place like home. So I am working towards having my next fight in Nigeria; it is likely to hold later in the year,” he said.
In addition to the WBO International Light-middleweight title, Emenogu is also in possession of a myriad of titles such as IBF, Pan Pacific Youth Light-middleweight, Australian Light-middleweight, and Pan Asia Boxing Association title.
