Badenoch has remained a popular figure within the Conservative Party and was nominated among seven others to replace Boris as prime minister. The commission in charge of organizing the leadership contest on Tuesday said that the eight candidates would compete to take over Johnson’s job as the UK Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative Party. However, legislators including Sajid Javid and Rehman Chishti earlier indicated their intent to run for the position but rescinded before the final list of candidates was announced.

Javid explained in a statement that “There is an abundance of both ideas and talent in our party. One of the candidates will be given the honour of becoming prime minister. “I look forward to seeing the debate unfold and to see colleagues working together as a united Conservative Party once the leadership election is concluded.” The first round of voting will be held on Wednesday. Should Kemi Badenoch emerge as UK’s Prime Minister, she would be the first black prime minister in UK’s history. Featured Image Source: Nairametrics
