#NigeriaHasDecided: And the Winner is …

The long wait is finally over! The All Progressives Congress candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari was declared the winner of the 2015 Presidential elections on 1st April, 2015 at 3 a.m. “Muhammadu Buhari having satisfied the requirement of the law and scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner.” This official statement was made by the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega at the end of a prolonged press briefing in Abuja comprising of announcements of election results per state. Buhari successfully secured a total of 15,424,921 votes, beating his primary contender; incumbent President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who received 12, 853,162 votes nationwide.  Buhari also gained majority votes in 21 states as opposed to Jonathan’s majority votes in 15 states and the FCT. Buhari prevailed in Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Sokoto, Yobe and Zamfara State. Jonathan won in Rivers, Plateau, Taraba, Nasarawa, Imo, Enugu, Ekiti, Edo, Delta, Ebonyi, Cross River, Bayelsa, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Abia State and the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja). The retired Major General will be occupying the seat of the presidency after three previous failed attempts at attaining the position. Congratulations to our new President!
