1. Nigeria’s health care sector is set to attract $1 million investment to Save One Million Lives of women and children from preventable causes such as malaria, malnutrition,
lack of access to life-saving commodities, and suboptimal supply chain systems amongst others. This landmark investment which is driven by the Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria, a public-private coalition aimed at mobilising Nigeria’s private sector to improve health outcomes, is via a Health Innovation Challenge (HIC).

Despite last week’s mild recovery, the basic indicators of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) took yet another plunge in the month of November, going by data from the bourse at the weekend. While market capitalisation fell N1.032 trillion to close at N11.404 trillion at the end of the month, the All-Share index dropped by 3,017.19 points or 8.03 per cent from the 37,550.24 points recorded at the end of October. Last week, the indicators closed in the green, with capitalisation (sum of the value of all listed equities) posting a mild N163.174 billion recovery, just as the index (which represents the average price movement of stocks at any period), rose by 616.87 points or 1.81 per cent.

Former Chairman of Subsidy Re-investment Programme (SURE-P), Christopher Kolade, has urged the Federal Government to honour the late Dr. Ameyo Adadevoh in view of the sacrifice she made for the country for all and find ways of honouring her accordingly. Kolade gave the charge last weekend at an integrity award night held as part of the Capital Market Committee (CMC) Retreat in Abuja. Both Adadevoh and First Consultants Hospital, where she worked until her death, won the award with a cash prize of N2.5 million each. Kolade commended Adadevoh for doing what was right even in the face of intense pressure and at the risk of her life.
4. The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Mahmud Mohammed, has pledged to ensure the enthronement of an independent and efficient judiciary before the end of his tenure.
Mohammed said having been part of the nation’s judicial system at the peak for a decade, he understands its workings and its challenges, and is willing to ensure that a functional judiciary that meets the people’s needs, is in place. He said with the support of good minds in the National Judicial Council (NJC), he would build on the structure left by his immediate predecessor in achieving his set objectives.

Axa SA has agreed to buy a majority stake in Nigeria’s Mansard Insurance PLC for €198 million ($246 million) to enter the country’s rapidly growing market. Axa is buying 77% of Mansard, which is listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, from investors including Development Partners International LLP, an Africa focused private-equity firm.
6. The Rotary Club of Gwarinpa, District 9125, has awarded scholarships to 52 indigent students of the Junior Secondary School, Gwarinpa.
The chairperson of the scholarship scheme, Mrs Kisayo Okunokwa, told newsmen that the scholarship awards were part of the club’s Basic Education and Literacy Programme.
“Education is part of the Rotary International’s area of focus. We want children to go and stay in school. So, Rotary Club of Gwarinpa instituted this to help the children here to remain in school. “So we take a group of students and we want to see them through the junior secondary school. We don’t want them to get to JSS three and say they can’t write the junior WAEC because they don’t have the money to register.
7. Foremost cement manufacturer, Lafarge Africa, has disclosed that it has, in the last six years,
expended N231.9 million on bursary awards given to 2,319 indigent undergraduates in the catchment operational base of the company in Ewekoro and Sagamu in Ogun State.

The contractor handling the renovation of the Kano Pillars home ground, the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, has promised the arena will be ready for use in two weeks. Pillars retained their Nigeria league championship last month after they hosted their home games in the Sabongari Township Stadium in Kano as the Sani Abacha Stadium was having a face-lift.

Super Eagles captain, Vincent Enyeama, has thanked Nigerians after he made the shortlist of five for the 2014 Confederation of African Football Player of the Year award. Enyeama, along with Super Eagles teammate Ahmed Musa, have been announced in the final five for the African Player of the Year award, and said he owes it to Nigerians for the love and support they have shown to him.

The Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, will host the 2014 edition of the Client Counselling Competition. The national competition, affiliated to the Louise M. Brown International Client Consultation Competition, will provide the winners of the national event the opportunity to represent Nigeria at the international competition.
