The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) officially commenced the Lagos World Tour on Monday in Lagos at the Teslim Balogun Stadium. ITTF’s hosting right was awarded to Nigeria to stage the maiden 2014 Africa Top 16 Cup after the country hosted the Lagos Classics in 2013.
The tournament, tagged Lagos World Tour Nigeria Open started yesterday and will end on the 26th of June. Countries participating in the classics include Singapore, Egypt, Russia, Benin Republic, Congo Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Ghana, Libya, Luxembourg, Morocco, Sierra-Leone, Togo, and Tunisia.
The championship would feature five events – men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. African table tennis champion, Eygpt’s Omar Assar is expected to participate in the tournament. He is currently rated number one in the men’s single.
