Nigeria football team has qualified for CHAN 2018, African Nations Championships, a biennial football cup organized by Confederation of African Football hosted by Kenya. They had lost to the Benin Republic team on August 13, but after a home game with a landslide victory of 2-0, held in Kano on Saturday, 19 August 2017, they have qualified for the African Nations Cup. Rabiu Ali and Kingsley Eduwo scored a goal respectively which led to the success of the march. Nigerian goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa saved the match by redeeming a 65-minute penalty from the Republic of Benin’s captain that would have given the Squirrels the away goal that would have led to their triumph. Even though it was a struggle as it led to a 2-1 aggregate score, we are still grateful for the win. The Nigerian Professional Football League club owners believe that this is a start of good things and that the country’s league is in good standing, as only players from the home based leagues are chosen to play for the team. This is unlike the African Cup of Nations, as the competing national teams must be made up of players playing in their domestic league.
