Yusuf Ali, one of the coaches with the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), has voiced out Nigeria’s need to be better prepared in order to perform excellently at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Ali made this disclosure yesterday in Lagos, pointing out that the Nigerian contingent to the event needs all the support it can get.
Already, 73 athletes are in camp in preparation for the 2014 Glasgow Games which begins July 23rd and ends August 3rd.
Ali announced that the athletes had just completed the second phase of their training and will resume competition in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State next Saturday to improve on its preparation for the games in July. “We just finished the second phase of our training, but by next Saturday, we will start our competition in Ijebu Ode. From there, we will gear up for the Golden League competition which will give us a peep into what to expect from the athletes. I can’t asses our athletes now until we test their abilities.
“It will be difficult as we have a long way to go. We will ensure that they get all the support they need,” Ali said.
