NFF Votes For Resumption Of Nigeria Professional Football League

While major football leagues in various parts of the globe continues considering the possibility of wrapping up the 2019/2020 season behind closed doors, as well as some countries that have already cancelled the season, the board of the Nigeria Football Federation has voted for the Nigeria Professional Football League alongside other football leagues in the country to be completed once the government deems it fit for sporting activities around the country to resume.

During a video conference meeting held on Thursday, May 14, 2020, the executive board of the NFF mandated its Football Committee to reach a resolution with various league heads (Nigeria Professional Football League, Nigeria Women Football League, Nigeria National League, and the Nigeria Nation-wide League One) and very important stakeholders in the country on the resumption of the domestic football leagues season.

The NFF however noted that the subject of leagues resumption was subject to the announcement of the Federal Government for football and other sporting activities in the country to recommence. The executive board of the NFF went further to commend efforts made by the federal government towards tackling the pandemic corona virus, praising the Federal Ministry of Health, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), and public health workers who have been in frontline in the fight against COVID-19.
