Home Remedies For Eczema

tea tree oil
Dermatitis, also known as eczema, is a skin condition that leaves the skin dry, flaky, red, itching and sometimes cracked. Dermatitis are grossly irritating, and although there are no specified causes of this skin condition, eczema is not contagious. Here are some ways to help treat this skin condition.

Tea tree oil

Also called ti tree oil or melaleuca oil, it is  a colourless oil processed from the leaves of the tea tree. The oil contains an impressive amount of  antimicrobial and antiseptic properties beneficial for treating eczema, these properties also soothe the skin, protecting it against varieties of bacteria and viruses. The oil, however, cannot be consumed orally as it is toxic; it can be applied externally on the skin when it’s diluted with a carrier oil like coconut oil or olive oil.

Aloe vera

Aloe vera is an excellent treatment for most skin conditions. Being an effective moisturizer, it rehydrates the skin, getting rid of the dryness caused by the eczem. Aloe vera gel calms the itching and inflammation.

Vaseline

Dry and even cracked skin is one prominent characteristic of eczema, applying Vaseline helps moisturise the areas  and soften the skin.

Vegetable Glycerine

Vegetable glycerine is plant based and quite different from the regular glycerine, which is based from the fats and oil of animals. The glycerine is also an effective moisturiser and, like aloe vera, helps keep the skin rehydrated. It dissolves fast in water, so you can add water before use.
