The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has rolled out a new offer of 50% off registration fee for entrepreneurs who want to register their locally made products. This development was initiated under the administration of Yetunde Oni, the acting Director General of NAFDAC, to promote economic development which is in-line with the Federal Government policy to promote local companies and their products.Dr. Abubakar Jimoh (NAFDAC Spokesperson) however stated that a similar ‘fee-waiver’ policy was initiated by the previous NAFDAC Director—Dr. Paul Ohi, but the waiver was open for graduates determined to set up an enterprise. He further explained that the policy ceased to exist as NYSC graduates were not taking the benefit. The spokesperson also said that the agency has promised to deal with individuals extorting harmless Nigerians under the guise of NAFDAC registration. According to him, the agency has decided to cease to licensing professional consultants and deal directly with producers.Dr. Jimoh also added that NAFDAC had recently setup Small Business Support Desk which is geared toward enlightening SMEs on the right way to setup their small factories.
