MTN Explores Other Payment Platforms After Disconnection By Nigerian Banks

  Following the disconnection of over 77 million MTN users from its USSD services by Nigerian commercial banks over disagreements regarding commissions, the telecommunication giants are exploring other electronic payment mediums for their customers who have been experiencing difficulty in recharging their lines through USSD and bank apps.

Aside from Zenith Bank, other commercial banks in Nigeria banned MTN from its services due to the company’s reduction of commission from an average of 3.5% to 2.5%. Alternative payment platforms for MTN subscribers to use include Flutterwave, OPay, Jumia Pay, Kuda, BillsnPay, and Carbon. In an official statement on Saturday, April 3, 2021, MTN through its Senior Manager, External Relations, Funso Aina, disclosed that customers can also recharge their airtime by dialling *904# and *606#.
‘It will interest you to note that for the benefit of our customers who have been greatly inconvenienced by the service suspension, we now have alternative channels of accessing MTN services electronically.’
