Movies To Watch This Weekend

Weekends mean many things to many Nigerians. For some, it means weddings, parties, plenty of dance and food, for others, it’s time out from work, but for us, it’s when we get to savour the very best of Nigerian cinema!

We’ve enjoyed films like Merry Men, Wedding Party, Chief Daddy, Lion Heart and more, and Nollywood keeps churning out more every weekend.

This weekend, here are the films that will be showing for the first time in cinemas near you.

Everything Happens To Me

Eighteen-year-old Emelda faces the scary consequence of aborting her baby. She not only fears the wrath of her very strict and very religious father but the other mysterious being in the house.

At first, she thinks it is all in her head until she begins to experience its love and violence all rolled in one.

Everything Happens To Me is directed by popular Nollywood actor and director Tchidi Chikere, and stars Sandra Okunzwa.

Kar Ki Manta Da Ni

This Hausa film is directed by one of Kannywood’s best; Ali Nuhu. It is a two-hour film about a conservative Hausa society’s reaction to drug use and addiction. It focuses on Nasir’s codeine addiction, and how his entire life spirals downwards after losing the love of his life.

Kannywood is the Hausa film industry in Nigeria.

Bling Lagosians

“Bling Lagosians” is a heartwarming comic drama by Bolanle Austin-Peters.

The film is about the Holloways, one of Lagos most flamboyant elitist families. While the family’s patriarch is concerned with holding up the family business that is on the verge of foreclosure, his wife is all about outdoing her previous record with having the biggest and most prestigious 51st birthday party, not to mention the many upheavals and bickering in the family, leading up to the big party.
