Movie Review: Awakening

By Pamela Agboga Starring O.C. Ukeje, Femi Brainard, Kehinde Bankole   ‘It tells the story of Nicholas (O.C. Ukeje), an advertising executive, whose life changes after a series of fatal dreams which come true. With the help of an ambitious journalist (Kehinde Bankole), he is able to uncover the truth about his dreams and the truth about their lives.’- Cinema Blurb This movie is rated 18, and rightly so- this is not one of those movies that the kids can hang around and watch, unless you don’t mind nightmares and wet beds. It is a thriller. The director, James Omokwe, did a terrific job. Camera angles were well planned, special effects were also wonderful, not Lord of the Rings super, but definitely better than The Incredible Hulk (2008- there were glitches in the graphics, especially in the Hulk’s purple shorts), so that’s saying something for our growth effects-wise. The animation was also very good. The soundtrack was A-okay, with some Gladiator-style Enya-ish singing to give an eerie feel to the movie. The only thing funny was how the Inspector Gbade (Femi Brainard) had a special hard rock tune, even for highly irrelevant moments like when he was sitting quietly at his pc, or even sleeping. When you see the movie you’ll understand. The acting was great, you could tell the actors all fully understood what was needed of them and went all out for it. My only grouse: someone’s hand was broken, and said hand was well used after breakage. You go see the movie and tell me if I’m not right; now showing at a cinema near you.
