Mikel Ruled Out Of Eagles’ Remaining AFCON Games

Super Eagles captain, Obi Mikel, faces an exit from action for Nigeria at the ongoing 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The skipper picked up an injury while on target for Nigeria in their last group game against Madagascar, and was immediately replaced by Alex Iwobi. Mikel sprained his knee and from reports, it could be a serious one for the Nigerian international.

After several checkups by the medical team, sources have confirmed that Mikel will be out of Nigeria’s Round of 16 fixture, and may very well be out for the rest of the tournament if he is unable to make a quick recovery.

Missing out on the remaining games in Nigeria’s AFCON campaign could be a big hit for Mikel, who earlier announced that this could be his last continental outing with the team.

Fans are curious and scared as to who will fill in for the playmaker in his absence.

The only man capable of doing this is Arsenal star, Iwobi, and although Iwobi lacks the exact experience Rohr seeks, he may just be all Nigeria needs to progress into the next round of the tournament.

Recall Iwobi’s heroics for Nigeria at the 2018 FIFA World Cup; he was quite riveting to watch.

The player has since improved on his game despite the lack of guts and the ability to take huge risks, which are a very essential part of a brilliant playmaker.

Nigerians can rest assured that Iwobi is the right man for the job and will fill the skipper’s role perfectly.
