Songwriter and producer, Don Clarke, and lyricist Karl Bremer are the first South Africans to win the grand prize in the Great American Song Contest. They won an award for their song, “The Long Walk Is Over” dedicated to the late Nelson Mandela
Bremer had written the song almost 10 years ago and sent the lyrics to Clarke. Last year, Bremer submitted it to the judging committee of the Great American Song Contest. The duo won $1000, production software and membership of the industry organization.
Clarke said on receiving the award, “It’s a big international award with more than 1600 entrants so this is quite an honor. It is also a great way to celebrate the legacy of one of the greatest icons of the 20th century.”
