Magazine Review: Introducing Flipboard

Flipboard is a personalized magazine builder. It builds your magazines by giving you an option to select an initial five topics from a list of 32,000. You browse topics by scrolling through a very long list or by keying a term into the search box. Once you’ve made your picks, Flipboard begins building your personalized magazine. After going through a few articles, Flipboard suggests that you follow related topics. It also suggests magazines (user-curated collections) to follow. If you want to read articles from select news outlets, say The New York Times or The Daily News, you can opt to follow those publications as well. Flipboard also feature The Daily Edition, a curated news magazine for people who want a quick update on hot stories. Users can create their own magazines by Flipping them into a default save for later folder or creating a new magazine from scratch. A magazine is ready to be shared once a minimum of 10 articles are flipped into a folder. This makes Flipboard an excellent content curation tool for writers and content developers. One of the best things about Flipboard is how it handles social networks. Touching Facebook, for example, brings up all your latest news stories in a magazine-style format and automatically displays images from links your friends posted. Similarly, when you touch Twitter, you’ll get each tweet laid out in magazine format, but also with linked stories similarly laid out so you can read some of the articles (more than on Twitter) before touching to see the whole story. Flipboard is undoubtedly the best social news app out there. Available for free on the Appstore and Google Playstore.
