LEAP Africa Calls for Application for The 2014 Social Innovators Programme

LEAP Africa has announced its call for applications for the 2014 Social Innovators Programme. This programme will support talented youth with ideas and initiatives and proffer effective solutions to challenges in local communities across Nigeria.
LEAP Africa is a non-profit organization that was founded by Ndidi Nwuneli (MFR). Since its inception in May 2002, LEAP Africa has successfully launched programmes for entrepreneurs and youth in twenty-six cities including the FCT in collaboration with non-profit organizations and leading financial institutions.
LEAP Africa offers a range of training programmes for youth, business owners, social entrepreneurs, managers and public officers with core programmes in business and youth leadership trainings. These programmes have enhanced the life and leadership skills of over 35, 000 Nigerians by equipping stakeholders with the skills, tools and support that they require to serve as change agents.
LEAP Africa’s Programmes have received funding from Ford Foundation, Citi Foundation, Nokia, Microsoft, International Youth Foundation, the United States Government, UK Government and the World Bank. They have also been supported by many Nigerian organizations.
The 2014 Social Innovators Programme applicants must meet the following entry requirement to be considered for the awards.
A Nigerian resident. Nigerians in the Diaspora are not eligible.
Between the ages of 18 – 35 years.
An Initiator of projects/initiatives/organisations that are positively impacting local communities and Nigerian lives.
Project must be working towards helping achieve the millennium development goals and entail creativity and innovation.
Applicant must be able to document, prove their work, and show the benefits as well as some level of sustainability amongst communities and Nigeria for a minimum of 12 months prior to date of application.
Applicant must be a founder or Co-founder of the project/organization.
The objectives of the social innovators program are to:
Identify, encourage and support youth in Nigeria who have initiated change projects focused on improving the lives of others.
Enhance the effectiveness of young change makers and their social enterprises through the use of technology and innovation.
Showcase their impact on local communities to demonstrate that youth can serve as effective change leaders in Nigeria.
Provide international recognition for local change-makers and access to international funding opportunities through the Social Innovation Programme Awards (SIPA).
Connect Nigerian change-makers to their peers around the world for shared learning and collaboration through YouthActionNet ®’s global network.
