Uruguay striker, Luis Suarez is doubtful about participating in the World Cup after sustaining a knee injury in training on Wednesday. The Liverpool striker, who bagged 31 premier league goals last season, is set to be on the side-lines for four to six weeks.
Suarez, who was voted PFA Player of the year in England, underwent meniscus surgery on Thursday morning. However, the chances of him being fit in time for the World Cup are slim, given that this type of injury often requires 16 weeks on the sidelines.
Uruguay coach, Oscar Tabarez may be forced to drop his talisman from his final 23-man squad for the tournament with Abel Hernandez and Cristian Stuani set to replace Suarez. Uruguay’s first group game will be played at the Estadio Castelao against Costa Rica on June 14th. Other members of the group are Euro 2012 finalist, Italy and England.
