Lagos State could be ushering its popular yellow buses (known by residents of the state as ‘Danfo’) off its roads before the year runs out. The state government has indicated that the buses are not part of its future plans for the city.
Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, revealed this while speaking at the 14th Annual Lecture of the Centre for Value and Leadership, which took place on Monday. According to him, the plan to transform Lagos into a world class megacity could not accommodate the yellow buses.
Premium Times quotes the governor as saying that he wants to “banish yellow buses from Lagos this year.”
“My dream of ensuring that Lagos becomes a true megacity will not be actualized with the presence of these yellow buses on Lagos roads,” he said.
Reports suggest that the government plans to approach the Nigerian stock exchange for funds to aid the expansion of mass transportation in the state.
