The Lagos Commissioner for Agriculture and Cooperatives, Prince Gbolahan Lawal, at a press conference with the Poultry Association of Nigeria, announced that the Lagos poultry industry generates about N44.9billion every year. He said the industry produces 48 million crates of table eggs per annum, 14 million kilograms of broiler meat, two million cockerels, one million turkey birds and six million eggs for hatching.
He mentioned some of government plans and commitments to the poultry industry, including the Agricultural Youth Empowerment Scheme (Agric YES) in Araga, Epe, saying that over 300 youths have been empowered, producing about 50 million eggs per annum from 150,000 commercial laying birds.
