Nigerian youngster, Kelechi Iheanacho has finally made his debut in the English Premier League (EPL) for high flying Manchester City against Odion Ighalo’s Watford on Saturday.
Iheanacho replaced Sergio Aguero in the 89th minute of the game with City cruising to their fourth win in four games.
Iheanacho was promoted to the Manchester City senior squad for the 2015/2016 season to serve as third choice striker behind Sergio Aguero and Wilfried Bony following the departure of Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic to Italian sides AS Roma and Inter Milan respectively. He was included in City’s first team squad for the first time in a competitive fixture on 10th August 2015 in his team’s opening EPL fixture at West Bromwich Albion but was an unused substitute. He was also named on City’s bench for the next two fixtures against Chelsea and Everton but spent the whole 90 minutes on the bench.
Iheanacho, 19, came to the fore in 2013 when he scored a number of goals to help the Nigerian U-17 team win the CAF U-17 Championship and FIFA U-17 World Cup.
