#JustForLaughs: 3 Christmas Myths Debunked

People have gotten quite creative with retelling the original Christmas story found in the Bible, perhaps for entertainment in their kids school plays among other things. In this post, we will attempt to get back to the original story, debunking some myths you probably have heard of. Trust us, they may even surprise you: 1. There may have been more than three wise men: Several, in fact. If you read the specific passages carefully, the Bible never stated that there were only three wise men present at Jesus birth, or that they were even kings for that matter! This misconception was probably deduced from the three presents stated – gold, frankincense and myrrh. 2. Mary may not have ridden a donkey: Maybe we have Christmas movies to thank for this assumption, but it would have been rather unwise for a very pregnant woman to ride such a low animal on a bumpy road while they searched for room in Bethlehem. It’s quite possible that she rode in a caravan or a horse-driven wagon. 3. Jesus wasn’t born on December 25th: This should not be news to anyone by now, but here is the reason why scholars are positive this isn’t so. According to the Bible, shepherds were out watching their flock during the night of Jesus’ birth. There is no way such would have taken place during  a cold winter in December. This is why some go as far as to estimate Christ’s birth being in April. Do you know other Christmas myths in need of being debunked? Share them with us in the comments section below.
