Joint Admission and Matriculation Board has reduced the cut-off marks for admission into universities, polytechnics and educational colleges to the lowest in its history. It has been reduced from the standard 200 and 180 to as low as 120 and 100. The Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this on Monday in Abuja during the Combined Policy Meeting. Admission into universities for degree programs would be 120, while the minimum score for polytechnics and colleges of education is 100. He added that tertiary institutions are permitted to raise their benchmarks subject to decisions made by its Senate Members and academic boards. He however, stressed the fact that no institution is allowed to go below the benchmark. He said a Central Admission Processing System would be used to streamline admission process and urges for individuals to not over dramatize issues relating to cut-off marks. He added that government has lifted off the ban placed on conducting Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
