This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody’s job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.
The story of everybody, somebody, anybody and nobody is so familiar that we laugh about it as often as we hear it imagining that it could never be us. It doesn’t get old and we think “such silliness”.
The reality, if we are true to ourselves, is that somehow, someway, someday, we inadvertently fall into the trap time and time again. Oh, that could never be me says you. Pause for a minute and reconsider….. This is the litmus test, you only need to look around you; at your school, work, business, society or church (I’m African) to know you’ve fallen into the trap.
We desire positive change and often believe someone else will do it. When we want change but depend on someone else to initiate it, one of two things happen.
- Nothing gets done
Or
- Somebody unqualified takes the rest of us for a ride
Be alert, kill the fear, start the journey, dictate the pace and be the change that you want.
