The commission which successfully conducted the 2021 gubernatorial elections in Anambra State, made this disclosure on Monday, November 22 in its second quarter, week seven, weekly update. INEC revealed that as of 7 AM on Monday, some 1,856,771 persons had completed their registrations online and physically. Statistics made available by INEC also disclosed that out of the 1,856,771 persons that have completed their registration, 941,098 are males, while 915,673, are females. The commission added that 741,183 Nigerians have completed online registration, while the physical registration has been completed by 1,115,588 citizens.

Nigerians are becoming increasingly aware of the need to vote in an election. The general elections of the most populous black nation on earth are expected to hold in 2023 as President Muhammadu Buhari is set to complete his second term in office before stepping down for the winner of the elections across the states of the federation. Though the Nigerian elections will hold in little over a year from now, political parties in the country have not conducted their primary elections which will see them present candidates for the elections at the presidential, gubernatorial, senatorial, and other levels. The voters’ registration exercise is expected to end in the middle of 2022 in other to afford INEC adequate time to prepare for the elections in 2023.
