This information released by INEC means that the election will hold on February 18, 2023. Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmoud Yakubu, while making the announcement at the inauguration of the House of Representatives committee on 1999 constitution review, stated that it is usually normal for elections to hold in the second week of February in every election year in Nigeria. To ensure the improvement of Nigeria’s electoral system, Mahmoud urged federal lawmakers to make sure the review of the 1999 constitution is timely. He went further to speak about innovations that INEC has made with the use of technology to assist in the conduct of elections, while also stressing the commission’s commitment towards ensuring credibility in the electoral process.

Further, the speaker of the assembly, Femi Gbajabiamila, emphasized on the importance of constitutional review towards the identification of areas where the law has defaulted in meeting expectations, and ensuring that identified spaces are filled.
‘We are commencing this constitutional review process at a time of great and ongoing upheaval in our country. New challenges emerge daily from every corner. Some of these challenges are of our own making, and others, we could not have foreseen or been prepared for.
