Iheanacho Scores For Leicester City, Grabs Double Assist In Europa League Clash

  Nigerian international, Kelechi Iheanacho, opened his goal-scoring account in the Europa League for Leicester City in Thursday’s (October 22, 2020) matchday one clash against Zorya. Iheanacho who led the Foxes attack ensured his team got off to a flying start in the competition with a 3-0 victory. The Nigerian set up James Maddison for Leicester’s first goal in the 29th minute. He would go on to assist the second goal for the King Power Stadium outfits after sending Harvey Barnes through on goal in the 49th minute before the 22-year-old beat Mykyta Shevchenko in goal and slot the ball into the net.

In the 67th minute, Iheanacho would crown his beautiful performance with a goal after firing in the third goal for Brendan Rodgers’ men, before he would be replaced four minutes later by Ayoze Perez. Fellow compatriot, Wilfred Ndidi, was not available for selection due to his groin injury as Leicester cruised to victory. Iheanacho, 24, now boasts five appearances across all competition for Leicester City this season as the victory over the Ukrainian side meant the English league outfits topped Group G of the Europa League ahead of Braga and AEK Athens.

It is not out of place to note that Iheanacho is no stranger to European competitions, the Nigerian boasts two goals in eight appearances for his former club, Manchester City, in the UEFA Champions League. It will be recalled that Iheanacho contributed five goals in Leicester’s quest for a European slot during the 2019/2020 season, he is expected to continue with his fine form for the Foxes as they look to achieve a similar feat this season.
