Iheanacho Ends Goal Drought In Leicester’s Carabao Cup Win

Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho came off the bench to end his goalless run for Leicester City in Tuesday night’s (September 24, 2019) Caraboa Cup victory over Luton Town.

Kelechi Iheanacho extended City’s lead with four minutes left on the clock with a brilliant chip that beat the onrushing Luton goalkeeper. The Super Eagles forward, who had been out of favour for the first six leagues for the 2019/2020 English Premier League season, was finally rewarded with game time by Brenda Rodgers, and the Nigerian did not fail to seize the opportunity to impress, earning praises from Leicester City’s assistant coach, Chris Davies.

It’s great for Kel, because he’s been outside of the squad, let alone the team. But he’s been working hard in training, the manager has given him an opportunity tonight and he’s come in and he’s not been on the pitch for long but he’s made an impact. He’s scored, he’s pressed the game well, he showed good hunger, a good appetite, and it’s an instinctive finish to chip the goalkeeper…

The squad were pleased for him. He works hard in training, he’s got the right mentality, so everyone was pleased for him to get that… We’re very pleased for him.
