If you are like me, always in search of quality Nigerian movies, then look no further, (o well, at least not for now) as Stanlee Ohikhuare’s much-anticipated movie Idahosa Trails hits cinemas this Friday!
The movie whose premiere was done last Friday in Benin City, is inspired by the audacious faith of the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa, founder of the Church of God Mission International, unarguably the greatest revivalist to come out of Africa, and the father of the Nigerian Pentecostal movement.
Some of Nollywood’s most revered veterans had to come out of seeming retirement for this one. Remember Charles Okafor, Patrick Doyle, Liz Benson- Yes, the Liz Benson who held us spellbound with her movie roles for years and suddenly disappeared from the scene! Others include Frank Donga, Kunle Idowu and Hollywood actor/producer David Schifter.
The movie is about an American journalist, Thomas Book, played by David Schifter, who is visiting Nigeria for the first time to document the coronation of a new Benin king but ends up on the trail of a famous preacher called Idahosa, played by Charles Okafor, who is famed for performing several miracles including raising the dead. His quest leads him into a surreal journey that would change his life forever.
You can trust that the multiple award-winning director Stanlee Ohikhuare, did a thorough job on the movie, having bagged the best documentary award 2014, best cinematographer award 2015 and best short movie award in the Africa magicviewers choice awards (AMVCA) as well as award of excellence(Social Justice & Liberation) at the 2015 Indie FEST Awards in the U.S.A just to mention a few.
