Federal Government Okays ICT University in Nigeria.

The Federal Government has approved plans to set an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) University in the country. The Acting President disclosed this at the opening of a two- day summit on Smart Cities in Nigeria on Tuesday in Abuja.
The proposal had been submitted by Minister of Communication, Barrister Adebayo Shittu who stated that the ICT universities would be established across geopolitical zones.
The country will make use of six digital institutes across the nation. This is to ensure that Nigeria keeps pace with the ever rapidly changing technological advancement in the nation in the global Information and Communication Technology industry. This would bridge the digital gap, encourage innovation and increase the country’s Gross Domestic Product.
He, Shittu had earlier inaugurated a 19 member committee to be in charge of the proposed ICT University of Nigeria.
Also, speaking at the event, the Minister of Communications unveiled collaboration with the European Union to create a Digital Single Market in Nigeria.
