I-Rep To Celebrate Nigerian Filmmaker Tunde Kelani At The International Documentary Film Festival

Documentary filmmakers and enthusiasts from around Africa and the rest of the world will converge in Lagos from the 22nd to 25th of March 2018 for the 8th edition of the annual i-Rep International Documentary Film Festival. As part of the events lined-up, there will be a showcase to celebrate the life and career of famous filmmaker, Tunde Kelani, who recently turned 70.

The Filmmaker

Kelani, popularly known as TK, has a career in film making spanning over forty years. He studied at the London Film School and founded the production outfit, Mainframe Opomulero which specialises in producing motion pictures that promote Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage. His award-winning works include Ti Oluwa Ni Ile; Saworoide; Arugba; Ayo Ni Mo Fe; Abeni; Maami; and most recently Sidi Ilujinle, an adaptation from Wole Soyinka’s classic, The Lion and The Jewel. Other movies he has adapted from literary materials include Ko se Gbe, Oleku, Thunder Bolt, The Narrow Path, White Handkerchief, and Dazzling Mirage

i-Rep International Documentary Film Festival

The i-Rep International Film Festival is produced by the Foundation for the Development of Documentary Film Festival in Africa. The festival will hold at Freedom Park, Broad Street, Lagos Island, the venue for the annual festivals since its inception in 2010. The 2018 theme for the festival is ARCHIVING AFRICA II: Frontiers and New Narratives. The list of special guests for the festival will include, among many, the i-Rep board chairman, Awam Amkpa; Programs Manager, Ford Foundation West Africa, Paul Nwulu; Jonathan Haynes from Long Island University Brooklyn, New York; a renowned documentarist of the Nigerian film industry, who will be presenting his new book titled, Nollywood: The Making of Nigerian Film Genre.   Feature image photo credit: irepfilmfestival.com
