Good News, Nigerian D’Tigress, Female Basketball Team of the Federation, emerges the winner of FIBA Championship. This is their third time of winning the competition as they dethrone Senegal, their West Africa competitor to win 2017 Women’s Afrobasket Championship in Bamako.
The lionesses roared with 65-48 score points, as they could not hide their desire to rule after 2003 and 2005. They are smiling their way to the 2018 World Cup in Spain, along with Senegal in style.
The team coached by Sam Vincent won the title on Sunday evening. A great feat indeed after defeating their strong rivals to emerge as Africa’s giant.
When Basketball was created by Dr. James Naismith in 1891 as a sport that could be played indoors by young men at the Springfield YMCA in Massachusetts, he probably did not know that women would be gaining the lead and qualifying for Championships. We are proud of them indeed.
