Zobo (Hibiscus Calyx) is not only a Nigerian popular drink but also well known beyond. It’s an affordable drink that has incredible health benefits (as I shared in this post). Honestly I never really liked this drink until I got to know about the nutritional benefits and realised that it’s quite tasty. So I had to learn the recipe and now I’m going to show you also in these simple steps:
Ingredients:
Zobo leaves
Ginger
Water
1 big ripe pineapple
Most people add artificial flavors/sweeteners or coloring, but I would recommend using natural flavors instead, like: sugar cane, orange, honey, lemon for a nutritious drink.
Steps
Wash the zobo leaves in cold water to get rid of dirt and spread to dry. Don’t soak before washing because dried zobo leaves as I got to know are rich in flavor & color.
When done with that, peel your pineapple and slice them into thin pieces. Do same with your garlic and ginger or pound/grind to a paste.
After you’ve washed your zobo, cook to boil and then add your ginger and garlic.
Leave to boil for another 5-10 minutes after which you bring it down and let it cool.
It might have a sour taste so at this point you add your pineapple and boil for another 30 minutes.
Bring it down, let it cool again. Squeeze out the juice from the leaves and pineapples. Pour through a sieve to remove particles.
Now you can either decide to leave it natural or add sugar but be careful so it doesn’t get too sugary. You can also add other artificial flavors just to spice it up.
Your Zobo is ready.
Serve chilled… Enjoy!
