The Hotels.ng Internship is an annual program organised by Mark Essien, CEO of Hotels.ng, as a way of
nurturing young and passionate software developers and developing the Nigerian and African tech community. The program is in its fourth iteration and has seen resounding success since its inception.
Innovation
Participants of past internships have built amazing products like
Raven, a simplified in-house mailing system, a Universal Locations API for e-commerce companies and
Spots.ng, a free platform that suggests cool spots and tourist attractions in Nigeria to users based on their preferences. Interns from last year also built the Hotels.ng Android app which is available in
PlayStore.
Last year, Hotels.ng partnered with the Akwa Ibom state government to train 500 local software developers and designers through the HNG internship program.
Remote Internship Program
This year, the company is partnering with big names in the software industry like Oracle, Figma and BlueChip Technologies. The Remote Internship Program is a paid internship where participants will learn how to work on real life software projects. They’ll also learn how to work with new technologies like Git, Figma, PHP, CSS, Oracle cloud services, Docker and lots more.
The internship will commence on the 1st of May, 2018, and will run for 3 months. Over 4000 participants are already enrolled and people are already getting cash rewards for executing small tasks prior to the official launch of the program.
Over 40 seasoned developers and former participants of the HNG internship are onboard to mentor the newbies and make sure everyone is carried along and none left behind.
According to Essien,
“We do not leave anyone behind – no matter how slow, we will help you get there. You only have one enemy – and that is the day you decide to give up. Persist and you will make it.”
Interns will be placed on a monthly salary for the length of the programme, as they work on creating new and amazing products.
