Nigeria’s U-18 and U-20 junior girl teams have been quite amazing at the ongoing International Handball Federation (IHF) Challenge Trophy – African Zone 3 World Cup in De Arts Stadium, Niamey, Niger Republic.

The U-18 team in the cadet class defeated Togo 50-11 in their first game of the tournament,  then went on to beat host country, Benin Republic 34-22, in their second match.

The U-20 junior girls were unable to replicate the same feat in their first game, as they recorded a 32-28 loss against Benin Republic. However, in their second game, they defeated Togo 31-19.

Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) President, Samuel Ocheho, has urged the ladies to keep up the good work and set their gaze on the trophy.

Speaking to newsmen in Lagos on Wednesday, the HFN Boss lauded the girls for their brilliant performances so far in the tournament, while also instructing them to be very intent on qualifying from the Zone 3 continental challenge.

The performance of our girls’ teams in the tournament is giving me joy and I urge them to sustain the winning tempo in their remaining matches because they are really doing well. Particularly, the cadet category have won their two matches convincingly and the junior girls are also pulling their weights which gives me the hope of them lifting the trophy.”
