Heartland FC Protests Walkover

By Arinze Ude Heartland FC has asked the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to help the club appeal to Confederation of African Football (CAF) to revisit their loss against Gabon’s US Bitam on Saturday. The Gabonese club were given the go-ahead by the match officials to walkover their Nigerian counterparts. Heartland left the shores of the country an hour before the game was due to kick off after they were delayed at the airport because of visa and flight issues. Heartland had expected the game to be shifted to Sunday by CAF, but were stunned to hear they had been walked-over. Heartland spokesman Cajetan Nkwopara is optimistic that the walkover decision will be overturned by CAF. “The club (US Bitam) desperately wanted to capitalise on a walkover decision because they were aware of our plight.” He explained. “We’ve approached the NFF and they will intervene and make a case on our behalf with CAF.”
