Have You Heard Of The Ali Baba’s Writing Challenge?

  On the 1st of July, Nigeria’s most popular stand-up comedian and actor, Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome (stage name: Ali Baba) unveiled a Writing Competition. The aim is to help develop the creative writing skills of writing enthusiasts through competition. To this effect, he began a new Instagram account @alibabaswriteoffchallenge for those in need of updates.

The Prizes for the Ali Baba’s Write Off Challenge 2020 are a N250,000 cheque + an iPad (1st Prize), N150,000 cheque + an iPad (2nd Prize) and N50,000 cheque + an iPad (3rd Prize). Ten finalists will be selected from all the entries thereafter, they will battle it out in another challenge for who gets to be the top 3 winners. The competition is open to all who have mad writing ink-stincts or are interested in writing. Requirements Include:

Ali Baba, whose comedic career spans over 30 years, has won numerous award from 2001 to 2010 for his role in shaping the comedy industry in Nigeria. Amongst other achievements, the 55-year-old Warri born has starred in five movies since 1998 including the Nollywood blockbuster, Wedding Party in 2016. He hopes to inspire some people through this competition to see writing as another career path during the ongoing pandemic.
