The New Year often comes with mixed feelings; sometimes we’re excited because it’s a brand new year, and other times we feel disillusioned because the plans we had set in place the previous year did not pan out.
2020 holds a lot of special events around the globe, one of them being the Connect Nigeria Business Fair, holding at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, and the 2020 Summer Olympics, holding in Tokyo.
Here are three simple things you can do differently this new year.
2020: New Start
Save
Little drops make an ocean. A friend was making fun of the amount I save weekly, but if I save N300 every week, doesn’t that amount to approximately N15,600 in a year? And isn’t N15,600 some money?
Fintechs like Cowrywise make saving daily, weekly or monthly easier and have a variety of plans that can fit your lifestyle.

Eat right
You only get one body and you should take care of it.
Beyond trying to lose weight (for those of us who have been on this journey for a long time!), you should watch what you take into your body. Drink more water and eat more fruits and vegetables. Cut down on the amount of palm oil you cook with; delicious as palm oil is, it is high in saturated fat, which can be harmful to cardiovascular health (The Independent).
Go for walks more often. Choose to take the steps instead of the elevator (don’t look at me that way). Take care of your back when sitting; don’t sit for long hours at a time and don’t slouch over your laptop when working.
These little differences will go a long way in keeping you healthy and happier.

With the advent of the internet and social media, we sometimes find it easier to binge-watch videos on Instagram than to read a book. Maybe it’s easier or perhaps we’re getting lazier, but we should not substitute reading.
Reading not only increases our range of vocabulary, but also engages our minds. When you can, read out loud so that you can work on your pronunciation, especially of new words that you encounter.
From all of us at Connect Nigeria, Happy New Year!
